A holistic approach to skincare. Let’s talk skin products, nutrition, stress relief, energy & more!

Happy New Year’s Eve! I felt it was only fitting to talk about alcohol consumption and the potential effects it can have on your skin.
Alcohol causes dehydration. This is an obvious one. Not only are you systemically dehydrated but your skin also gets dehydrated. This can show up as dry, flaky, dull skin. Your skin loses water but it also loses nutrients, particularly vitamin A, causing your skin to look wrinkly. Yikes! And this happens every 👏 time 👏 you 👏 drink! Over time, alcohol consumption results in a faster decrease in skin elasticity which causes more fine lines and wrinkles and also leads to a sagging appearance.
Another effect alcohol can have on your skin that people don’t realize, though, is hyperpigmentation. Yes! Alcohol consumption can even cause your skin to start showing hyperpigmentation! In a nutshell, this can happen because alcohol causes inflammation in the skin which in turn can cause hyperpigmentation over time.
So in short, alcohol consumption makes your skin age faster; however, this doesn’t mean you have to throw out all of your booze just yet! Here are some things you can do to combat the aging effects of alcohol:
1. Drink plenty of water and electrolytes along with your alcoholic beverage(s)
2. Don’t skimp out on your skincare routine!!! You need to feed your skin externally as well
3. Get some good rest - your skin does most of its healing during your long periods of sleep
4. Ice your puffy eyes/inflamed skin
5. Don’t make alcohol consumption a daily thing

Let’s talk about cystic acne! Almost everyone has woken up to a lovely, pesky, little (or big) cystic pimple at least once in their life. And if you haven’t, consider yourself lucky!
Cystic pimples are a painful type of acne that occurs deep in the skin’s layers and causes inflammation. This happens due to bacteria, dead skin cells and sebum getting trapped deep under the skin’s surface. You could be genetically predisposed to cystic acne as well, if both of your parents suffered from this type of acne. Cystic pimples can even appear due to hormones and stress.
Cystic pimples are occasionally referred to as “blind pimples” because they don’t come to a head. Which brings us to our first “what not to do.”
Don’t try to pop cystic acne. Don’t pick it. Don’t lance it. None of that! Since cystic acne is so deep in the surface of your skin, you can’t be sure how far the infection has actually spread and doing all of the aforementioned things can actually cause the infection to spread more causing additional swelling, more pain and potentially more acne breakouts! Trust me, you do NOT want that.
Try icing your cystic pimple instead! Icing helps the pain and inflammation which not only feels better but makes you less likely to further mess with it.
Don’t use the lightning bolt technique when doing high Frequency. This is where you zap the zit by hovering the high frequency device directly over the pimple without actually placing the device onto the skin causing a “lightning bolt.” This can cause scarring and a deeper infection. High Frequency can be a great tool for acne in general when used properly. It produces an “ozone” layer which has an antibacterial effect on your skin. Blue light is another device you can use that has an antibacterial effect on the skin as well as being calming.
Use a salicylic cleanser and spot treat with benzoyl peroxide. These ingredients are very drying though so make sure you hydrate your skin!
These are only a few of the things that can help with cystic acne. As always, be patient with your skin! It’s the largest organ of your body and deals with a lot on a day to day basis.

Light therapy is good for SO many different things!
Each color has a different wavelength and penetrates the skin at different depths.
I am personally obsessed with my LED mask which had infrared, red and blue light. I like to use my mask in conjunction with my night time serums to help with product absorption.
My goal is to get a mask that has all the color of the LED rainbow!

Where did fall go, y’all? It seems as if we jumped straight from sunny weather to cold, snowy, winter weather!
With this drastic change in weather sometimes comes a noticeable change in your skin as well.
Is your skin feeling dry and tight? Well, try this super easy skin care tip. Aloe! Add aloe to a lavender hydrosol and spritz your face to add hydration. Then seal it in with an oil to keep that moisture from evaporating off the skin. My recommendation is jojoba oil since it’s the closest oil to your body’s natural sebum.
Aloe is known for its soothing and moisturizing properties. Combined with the lavender hydrosol, you now add regenerative properties, anti inflammatory properties and even anti bacterial properties. Not to mention lavender is also soothing and can help relieve dry, irritated skin.
Keep in mind that over use of certain hydrosols (especially those with antimicrobial properties) can sometimes cause the skin to dry out so you can totally replace the hydrosol with mineralized water. Always remember to let your skin tell you what it can handle!
Let me know how this works for your skin! Stay warm!

This is so true for everything in life, even your skincare!
Tiny improvements can make big differences over the long run. Big results take time. Be patient. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
Here are some small skincare steps you can start making that you’ll thank yourself for in the long run and they’re FREE:
✨ Stop over exfoliating (once or twice a month is actually plenty!)
✨ ALWAYS remember your SPF (and don’t forget to reapply it)
✨ Stay hydrated (internally and externally - your skin needs hydration, too)
✨ Remove your makeup EVERY night
✨ Stop overusing retinols!
✨ Stop taking scorching hot showers
✨ Stop picking at your skin
✨ Less is sometimes more when it comes to your skincare routine. You don’t need a bunch of fancy, overpriced products to get your skin healthy
Above all else, remember that your skin is constantly changing and you’re never going to have “perfect” skin. Texture is normal. Blemishes are normal. Fine lines and wrinkles are normal. You are perfectly imperfect and beautiful all the same! You’re unique and that’s amazing! Celebrate yourself and celebrate your skin.
Sending y’all so much love on this Friday. 😘

Do your showers feel a lot like this?
Well… STOPPPPPP! Your skin will thank you when you quit taking scorching hot showers.
Client: But Amanda, hot showers feel soooooo good!
Me: Yeah, I know, but you’re damaging your skin. So knock it off!
Why are hot showers so damaging for your skin? Well, I’m glad you asked…
Hot showers can:
🔥 cause inflammation
🔥 cause dry, itchy skin
🔥 cause your skin to peel, damaging your protective layer
🔥 cause you to develop eczema or make mild eczema worse
🔥 strip your skin of its oils
🔥 cause acne flare ups

Hormonal acne…we have all dealt with it at one point in our lives or another. But how do you actually know if you’re dealing with hormonal acne?
A couple of indicators that you are: your breakouts are typically present on the lower third of your face, they typically get worse before your period or you notice them when you’re stressed.
Treating hormonal acne can seem like a nearly impossible thing, especially since it’s caused by an imbalance of hormones. How could you possibly treat something that’s caused internally, right?
Well, here are a few tips to potentially help you combat your hormonal acne or at least make it a little less apparent:
✨Develop a consistent skincare routine and actually stick to it
✨Cleanse your face in the morning and before bed
✨Cleanse your face with a salicylic cleanser during the time frame when your acne is at it’s worse
✨Try using a benzoyl peroxide to spot treat your acne
✨Avoid constantly touching or picking at your face
✨Try icing your inflamed acne, this is especially beneficial for cystic acne (do not extract cystic acne)
✨Use non-comedogenic products
✨Pay attention to what you’re putting in your body, avoid foods that cause an inflammatory response or that cause your hormones to influx
Keep in mind that everyone’s skin is different thus responds differently. ALWAYS pay attention to how your skin reacts to certain products and routines. If something is not working for you or making your skin irritated, STOP using it! You don’t want to overuse certain products like salicylic or benzoyl peroxide because of the potential of drying out your skin and compromising your barrier (everything in moderation). And make sure to always replenish your skin with nutrients after cleansing such as serums with vitamins A, C & E.
Above all else, remember that you’re a beautiful human. Breakouts suck but they don’t define you. You’ve got this!

I don’t know how I did it but I made Glen’s List! Over half way there!

Let’s talk about your workout habits… What does this have to do with your skin? Well, a lot actually. By increasing your blood flow, any kind of physical activity actually helps nourish your skin as well as rid waste! Your blood carries oxygen and nutrients to working cells throughout your body to include your skin so the more blood flow you got going on, the more nourishment your skin is getting. Exercising also releases endorphins, aiding in the reduction of cortisol which is known to increase oil production causing clogged pores. And nobody wants that, my friends! Now I’m not saying you have to go buy a gym membership right this second. I’m just saying that you need to get that beautiful body of yours moving! Go for a hike, do some yoga, play fetch with your dog, do something! Just don’t stay sedentary. Get moving! It’s time to get your mind, body and soul in balance. You’ve got this! Not only are you going to look amazing but you’re going to feel amazing, too! I’m rooting for YOU!

On Wednesday’s we do skincare. 🧖♀️
Happy Wednesday, y’all! We’re half way to the weekend. You got this!

Did a lash lift & tint on this beautiful bride to be. 🥰

In a world full of critics and endless filters, don’t be afraid to be YOU. Stop judging yourself off of the people you see on social media. It 👏 is 👏 NOT 👏 real! No one is perfect. No one looks flawless every moment of every second. It’s okay to have flaws. The goal is healthiness not perfection. That goes for your skin as well as your mind, body and soul. Stop letting people define you by something that society deems as ugly and even more so, stop defining YOURSELF by these things. You are worth more than the bubble society puts you in, my friend.
I may be in esthetics but my skin is absolutely NOT perfect. I’ve got melasma from stupid birth control, hyperpigmentation from cystic acne scars, dark circles under my eyes, and the list goes on. But guess what?! I may have melasma but I no longer suffer from hormone imbalance, these dark circles are from late night snuggles with my beautiful babies, and I worked so hard to clear my cystic acne so what’s a few scars, eh?
My point is, there is so much beauty in our “flaws.” YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. Own that!
Sending so much love to y’all today and everyday.

Another lash lift & tint today! Look at those beautiful blue eyes, too!

On Wednesday’s we wax!

Lisa got an eyebrow and some lashes today. I’ve never drawn on an eyebrow from scratch before so it was definitely a learning experience. I was moreso focusing on the shape and learning how to map a brow from scratch. She looks a little cray cray but practice makes perfect!

Got my makeup done by .beautywellness today! I’m not used to wearing makeup so my esti bestie .reams and I took this opportunity to do a mini photo shoot. I am clearly not a model and extremely awkward. Tons of laughs were had! Beauty school is kinda fun. 😉
