Why we don’t do Dermaplaning.

We get asked if we do dermaplaning almost every day, it seems to be the latest fashionable treatment at the moment.
It’s a treatment we have chosen not to do and here is why.

Dermaplaning is mechanically removing the top layer of your epidermis (the outer layer of your skin) and shaving your vellus hair.

Our ethos is to make the skin as healthy as possible, fighting free radicals and UV damage. We do this by reinforcing the skin’s health using luxury medical skincare usually referred to as cosmeceuticals. These products cannot be bought in department stores or picked up off the shelf as you need to have a consultation with a skincare specialist to make sure you are using products with ingredients that are treating your skin type and condition effectively, to give you the best results for your skin.

UV damage happens every day. UVA rays are present if it is daylight, they are ageing your skin even if the sun isn’t shining and they pe*****te clouds and glass. Your epidermis and vellus hair is your own natural last layer of protection against UV rays, that’s why we don’t mechanically remove it.

When it is mechanically removed, it’s gone in an instant and the lower layers aren’t quite ready to protect you. What we do to aid desquamation (the natural shedding of your skin) and remove the skin that’s clinging on a little too much, is chemically remove them. That sounds scary but it isn’t. It’s using ingredients within a facial that break down the chemical bonds between the layers of your skin and this happens over the few days after you have had your treatment. Slowing down the removal process allows the bottom layer of your skin to turbo charge cell production, meaning the skin that will become exposed is that little bit more ready to defend against free radicles and UV rays.

As for removing the vellus hair, would you take a bic razor to your face to shave it? Dermaplaning is doing the same thing. Any hair, especially vellus hair, grows tapered. It is naturally thinner at the ends. When you cut this hair at the skin’s surface you are cutting it blunt and it will continue to grow with a blunt end, giving the impression of it growing thicker. Nobody wants thicker hair growing on their cheeks or chins.

The instant exfoliation from Dermaplaning gives a smooth feeling to the skin. Unless the skin function is changed by using active molecules within your skincare consistently, your skin will return to how it was pre treatment. We believe that you can obtain that smooth feeling every day by using the active skincare whilst protecting the skin at all times against free radicles and UV damage. As Christmas changes in my house, the magic doesn’t disappear, but shifts. From the excitement of young children believing, to the kinships of teenagers. Day 10 - SkinPen Microneedling 3 for 2

Microneedling is the gold standard treatment for collagen stimulation and improving the texture of your skin.

Stimulating Collagen production for smoother, plumper, younger looking skin.
The whole process takes about 60 minutes.

To begin, we numb the skin (a patch test is required). The SkinPen glides over the skin which has microscopic needles 0.25cm-2.5cm). These tiny needles comfortably pe*****te the dermis and cause a microtrauma on the skin. This microtrauma can cause erethema and sometimes tiny pinpricks of blood on the skin. Once this has happened we know the collagen and elastin production is kick-started.

This microtrauma tricks the skin into natural healing mode and floods the area with collagen and elastin.
